Why has Forbes as well as Fortune determined the San Juans are among the world's most desirable second home locations?

The San Juans and San Juan Island in particular have become the Martha's Vineyard of the Seattle Metropolitan Area but it goes deeper than that!  The San Juans attracted so many from Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Chicago because they are simply un-duplicated.  Startling home sites hang out over rocky cliffs.  A shoreline that abounds with sea life as well as marvelous sheltered beaches with their tame waters lapping at your feet.  Some home sites sit right at water level with your boat at the front door.

Speaking of your boat.  The San Juans offer the world's most attractive cruising and fishing waters.  Thousands of islands await your boating visit and all can be reached without venturing into the open sea.  Salmon in abundance, oysters, clams, crab, prawns, are yours for the capturing.

Maybe though, the big reason for the focus on these treasured islands, is they remain unspoiled as are the people that inhabit them.  "One for the money, two for the show" would be a poor description of the community as those that move here seem to just put on their jeans and assimilate into the rural friendliness for which the county is famous!
